Where's the Balance between ASL and Aud/Path/CI at SLCC?

Jana asks viewers to share feedback concerning SLCC balancing between ASL/or Deaf Studies dept and Audiology/Pathology/CI dept when SLCC is built? Pls pardon as its my 2nd vlog as Im learning to make it shorter as possible. Feel free to comment.

Obviously, the medical approach is a booming business. The cultural approach doesn't make anyone any money, does it? If you look at research into developing languages, such as Nicaraguan Sign Language, that doesn't make anyone any money. Research into ASL doesn't really make anyone any money. I'm not trying to be negative, just truthful. While I deeply cherish ASL, I just don't see the money-making possibilities there. (Not that I'm trying to make money off of it...) We are a small community considering the numbers of the hearing population and those who would approach us from a medical standpoint. Those of us in the community who are capable of doing per-reviewed research in ASL are an even smaller number. Without a strong, large base of individuals who are capable of running peer-reviewed research on ASL, there will be small support for it. We are in the minority. I wish it were a different situation. I do agree with your discussion of balance, but truly, to have true balance, we would need about 200% ASL and 0% audiology/speech (haven't they had their turn?) in order to make up for lost time.

The Gallaudet adminstration and the SLCC committee have to come forward and explain how come and why the entire floor devoted to the speech therapy rooms and language science studies.

Or something keep simmering and overflowing from the black kettle hanging at the fireplace without us handling it wisely.

It is not really that big surprise that corporate America focus on "medical solutions" because it is only concerned with PROFITS FOR RICH WHITE HEARING MEN! We deaf people are not alone, many minorities here and the rest of the world are slowly waking up to the fact that in America there is NO DEMOCRACY as visualized by our founders. IT IS CORPORATE AMERICA RULE!

Deaf people of the world, UNITE!!!

Wow you got good expressive from your thoughts! Great to see you on vlog! Yes, you got good questions! ASL should be the first foundation because we cannot leave ASL out from our language needs!
